In most of the northern hemisphere it is now time to tuck your classic car away for the winter.
In this regards, here are some small steps you should do to keep your classic car well and good for the winter.
- Fill your gas tank full and add some fuel preservative, because when a car is stored for longer periods the fuel in t6he tank will gradually start to deteriorate. Even starting the car every once in a while will not cure this problem, so get some preservative in the tank.
- It is always a good idea to change the oil before storage because byproducts of combustion tends to produce acids in the oil which then can do damage to the inner metal surfaces at a later point.
- Fill up with water and antifreeze, if it gets very cold where the storage is, make sure the antifreeze is rated for the range of degrees you usually get.
- If you can, lift the car up on stands to take the pressure of the tires, this prevents flattening of the tires.
- Disconnect the battery
- It might be a good idea to use some rodent repellent in the car at exposed areas if you have a rodent problem where the car is stored.
- Put some condensation pads in your interior, it will draw moisture from the air, and help keep your interior free of moist.
- Cover the car with a god quality breathing car cover to protect it from the surroundings.
It is also a good idea to start or turn the engine over once in a while to lubricate the engine once in a while. You really don’t need to start it, just disconnect the wire to the coil and turn it over a few times, that should be enough.
