This is a topic that has been written quite a lot about on the internet, and I’m merely going to stress about why it is very important for you to have this insurance.

Your classic car is an asset, most of these cars do not loose much value if they are kept in a reasonably good condition.

More info on classic car insurance

I found an article that covers the importance of this over at the Talking Cents blog where Bethany Collins wrote a guest post about this exact topic, here are some good points from that article, underlining what I just said:

Recent statistics show that more than half of classic car owners have taken out standard insurance policies on their cars. Why is this so impractical? Because standard car policies might leave you high and dry when you really want your insurance to work for you!

I totally agree, standard car policies are not optimal for our classic cars.

Then she asks the crucial question:

What is a ‘classic’ car?

Any car between 10 to 20 years old can be considered a “classic” car. However, different car insurance companies may have different classification standards. Some might classify cars older than 15 years as classic cars. Basically, there are three segregations – standard, classic, and antique….. it is important to understand each company’s definition of a “classic” car.

This is critical point actually, because there really should be, in my opinion, a standard classification on this matter, which all insurance companies would have to conform to. This would make it a lot easier to maneuver in the big sea of insurance offerings.

She then goes on covering the types of classic car insurance coverages you might get get offered, and then gives some other great tips. You can read that whole article here
